August 2009We are delighted to have just released our 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon. We were bowled over by the demand for the 2004 Cabernet. As word spread the orders came thick and fast and it is now sold out. Being a specialist small winemaker our production is limited and we urge our customers to place their orders early on release to avoid missing out. For your convenience we have secure online purchasing facilities. In the vineyard, pruning is well underway. Winter is a great time to be in the paddock... most days anyway! It is an exciting opportunity to prune and set up the vines individually for the coming growing season – through careful pruning fruit yield and quality can be determined. It is interesting to look at how the vineyard is performing at nearly fifteen years of age. What I see is that the classic varieties are thriving in our cool climate and our own unique terroir. We have several different clones of Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay which are all performing very well. This multi-clonal approach allows for the consistent production of flavoursome and complex wines. Of course there are always those days when the winter weather forces you indoors. Just long enough to pack for a trip to the Snowy Mountains. With the ski fields just hours away the hint of sleet in the vineyard is a pretty good indicator of fresh powder to be had at Thredbo and Perisher Valley NSW. We have a long association with the mountains where there are customers who have supported us from our very first vintage. So if you are in that part of the world drop in to Horizons Resort in Jindabyne, Crackenback Cottage on the Alpine Way, or Credo Restaurant, Thredbo Alpine Hotel and Bernti’s Mountain Inn in Thredbo Village. They’ll all extend a warm welcome, have great food, and naturally a great wine list! While we don’t operate a cellar door as such, you are always welcome to visit. We love meeting our customers and sharing experiences. Take a relaxing stroll around the vineyard and perhaps have a taste of what is in the offing. To visit please call Chris on 0407 077 663. |

September 2008We are very excited to be releasing two new wines this month. With the 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon sold out the 2004 Cabernet is now available and looking very smart. It is greatly rewarding to see the wines just getting better all the time. This year we made a Cabernet Rosé for the first time. Picked in April and bottled in August, just in time for springtime and summer barbeques! On the weather front it has been a cold but dry winter. As we go into spring we are looking for some heavy rain but September falls have only been light. We need a good soaking so that as the vines come into flowering there is sufficient moisture and nutrient availability to ensure an even fruit set. |

Vintage 2008What a contrast to last season! At first it appeared as if the 'Big Dry' was set to continue as we entered a hot and parched Spring. Then the rains came. They were plentiful and refreshing, allowing the soil to slake its thirst and rejuvenate the vines. As we move into véraison the vines are looking healthy and laden with fruit. Vintage 2008 is looking exciting! |

Vintage 20072007 was certainly a tough vintage in many ways for many wine regions. At Joshua’s Fault we escaped rather lightly with only a touch of frost. This is testament to the site’s ability to drain cool air on cold still nights. We weren’t affected by bushfire smoke and had sufficient water to ripen the crop properly. As a result we were able to grow the best fruit ever and are really excited about what's currently maturing in oak. Patience...! 2008 will certainly be low yielding from last season’s frost affected vines and at this point careful use of water is the main consideration. The vines have all been hand pruned to give a nicely spaced cordon and with the vine age now approaching twelve years we are again looking forward with anticipation. Could it be as good as last year... or better? |
